The SCSO registry allows you to put in your address and see where registered sex offenders live near you.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is reminding Everett parents of a tool that can be used to keep kids from going to the homes of registered sex offenders this Halloween. Here’s the release from Shari Ireton at SCSO…

With Trick-or-Treating just around the corner, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office encourages county residents to be informed about the registered sex offenders (RSO) in their community.

“With over 1,700 RSOs living in Snohomish County, it’s important that parents know which houses their children should avoid on Halloween night,” said Sheriff Ty Trenary.  “Alert, involved and informed parents are key to keeping our kids safe.”

The Sheriff’s Office, which manages all registered sex offenders in Snohomish County, has partnered with OffenderWatch to provide web search tools and e-mail notification.  The web search tools allow users to search for offenders by name or by address.  Through e-mail notification, a registered e-mail address will receive alerts directly from the Sheriff’s Office about RSOs in your neighborhood.

This information, however, should not be used to harass or abuse RSOs.  Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until passage of the Community Protection Act of 1990 which mandated sex offender registration that law enforcement knew where they were living. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders is illegal and such abuse could potentially end law enforcement’s ability to do community notifications. Because sex offenders drive their power through secrecy, the only person who wins if community notification ends is the sex offender.

Additional information about registered sex offenders can be found at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office website:
