Snohomish County also has an update…

With additional snow expected to hit Snohomish County during Wednesday morning commutes, drivers are asked to take extra precautions before traveling to work. As much as 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected between Everett and the northern county line with more than 5 to 8 inches expected in eastern Snohomish County early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

While most Snohomish County offices will remain open Wednesday, residents needing to use county services should check first. Heavy snowfall Tuesday forced Snohomish County District Courts to close its Cascade, Evergreen and South Divisions early. District court openings will be re-evaluated Wednesday morning. Superior Courts will remain open, however, some scheduling changes may occur. “We’re working diligently to keep offices open, roads cleared and county services available to residents,” said Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon. About 40 county trucks, graders and plows have been on the streets since snow started falling Saturday. Crews, working around the clock to keep main arterials clean and when possible secondary roads throughout the county, have plowed more than 6,000 miles of roadway and applied more than 2,000 tons of sand. The county is responsible for about 1,550 miles of roadway but due to worsening weather has hit many streets more than once. Additional crews have been removing downed trees, and portions of the Mt. Loop Highway and Kellogg Lake Road have been closed due to safety concerns. “There’s still work to be done, so we’re asking residents to be patient as we continue plowing,” said Steve Thomsen, the county’s Public Works director.

Road issues can be reported by calling 425-388-7500 or emailing contact.pwrm@snoco.org. Crews will remain on duty until roads are clear and temperatures warm. As temperatures return to normal, heavy melting and possible urban flooding are to be expected, especially in south Snohomish County, officials say. Homeowners of flat-topped structures should take steps to safely remove snow from their roofs.
