struggle over boat motor leaves one dead

One dead following a struggle behind this boat in South Everett

There are currently more questions than answers following a confrontation between a south Everett homeowner and a suspected thief around two o’clock this afternoon. Here’s what Snohomish County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Rebecca Hover says about the incident…

We have a death investigation going on right now in the 400 block of 117th St. SE in unincorporated Everett. Shortly before 2 p.m. today a homeowner called 911 to report that a man was breaking into his boat in his driveway and possibly trying to steal the outboard motor. The homeowner said he had struggled with the suspect and held him down. When deputies arrived, the suspect was lying on the ground near the house and was not breathing. Despite attempts to revive the suspect, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homeowner, described as a 67-year-old man, was taken to an Everett hospital as a precautionary measure. The suspect is described as possibly being in his early 20s.

Detectives are investigating the incident. There were no obvious signs of trauma to the suspect. The Snohomish Medical Examiner’s Office will determine identification as well as cause and manner of death and will release that information later. No arrests have been made.
