Everett is Getting a New Radio Station. What Should Be On It?

Everett Economy, Everett Jobs

Everett is about to get it's 4th radio station. AM 1520 will be on the air this summer. What should they play?

The FCC has given final approval for a new radio station to serve Everett and the surrounding communities. Technically licensed to Snohomish, AM 1520 will be operated out of the studios that house KRKO AM 1380 in Downtown Everett. Owned by the Skotdal brothers, Craig and Andy (who also own KRKO), the new station is expected to be on the air this summer. They first applied for the station back in October of 2007 and have been battling opposition to the station since that time. The station will use four towers at the KRKO site off Short School Road west of Snohomish,Two current towers and two new towers for a total of six at the site. That put them squarely in the sights of environmental activists who argued everything from birds falling from the skies to kids getting cancer from radiation. The KRKO towers were even attacked by a rogue bulldozer operator who claimed to be from the Earth Liberation Front. Thru it all, the brothers continued with studies, legal arguments and re-construction. KRKO is back to full power and now AM1520 will be on the air this summer. What do you think they should play? Country Music, Oldies, Talk Radio, Mexican? KRKO’s Andy Skotdal tells me he’s considering a contest to decide what should go on the air and he’s open to suggestions. You can contact him thru the KRKO website.
