Hewitt Fire

One person is unaccounted for from this building

The Everett Fire Department says one person is unaccounted for after a fire last night ripped thru the building at 1816 Hewitt in downtown Everett. Rick Robinson from Everett Fire says that crews are still on the scene with a fire watch and are dealing with hot spots but the fire is basically out. Power to the downtown area around the fire was initially turned off to prevent energized power lines from possibly falling around the fire scene. Power to the downtown area has been restored outside of the fire scene.

Reports from residents of the fire building indicate they have not seen one of their fellow residents since before the fire, and that he lived in the apartment where the fire appears to have started. A search of the building was not possible in the early stages of the fire due to its rapid growth which forced firefighters outside. The damage to the building from the fire will need to be assessed before the building might be entered to conduct a search and an investigation of the cause of the fire.

Two persons watching the fire downwind a block away were transported to Providence Regional Medical Center for observation and evaluation as a result of smoke in the vicinity.
