At approximately 1 p.m. today in Snohomish County Superior Court, Victor Torres Zuniga was found guilty in the 2023 murder of a 15-year-old in South Everett.
On September 8, 2023, at approximately 6:30 am, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in the 7700 block of Hardeson Rd. while waiting for his school bus.
It was later determined that then 19-year-old Victor Torres Zuniga drove by the bus stop, shot at a group of juveniles from the driver’s seat of a black vehicle, and immediately fled the area.
Witness statements and surveillance footage immediately following the murder identified the involved vehicle as a black Kia Soul, which Everett Police Crime Analysts quickly recognized as having been reported stolen that morning.
In the days following the incident, the Everett Police Anti-Crime Team (ACT) and Violent Crime Unit (VCU) identified and arrested Torres Zuniga and a second male, 20-year-old Uriel Hernandez Martinez, as suspects in this murder.
Throughout the course of this investigation, investigators determined that Hernandez Martinez helped organize the murder but was not present during its commission. Torres Zuniga was determined to be the shooter, and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the murder.
In January 2025, Hernandez Martinez took a plea deal for Murder in the 2nd Degree.
In September 2026, Torres Zuniga went to trial for the following counts:
- Aggravated Murder 1 with a Firearm Enhancement
- Premeditated Murder 1 with a Firearm Enhancement
- Assault 1 with Firearm Enhancement
- Assault 1 with Firearm Enhancement
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Tampering with a Witness
Today in court, Torres Zuniga was found guilty of Aggravated Murder 1, Premeditated Murder 1, Assault 1 (two counts) and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
His sentencing is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
