Scary Moment at QFC on Broadway as Previously Convicted Murderer Was Arrested

An innocent bystander parked in the QFC parking lot last night described a scary situation that unfolded. A man was parked next to her and was very agitated when Everett Police were questioning him for possible domestic violence charges. He kept reaching into his truck, which may have had a gun in it.

Turns out the man was Jeremy Joseph Gwinn, a man previously convicted of 1st-degree murder, where he was sentenced to 32-years in prison in 1996.

The incident took place around 7:30 PM last night in the QFC parking lot. The suspect’s truck pulled up next to Codii Richardson’s car and she was blocked in when police starting questioning him.

Codii caught video of some of the interaction from her car. The suspect was standing right next to her vehicle, and an officer can be seen holding a taser. She feared that she might be get caught in the crossfire.

Eventually, the suspect tried to flee but didn’t make it far and was arrested at the Chevron across the street.

In his 1996 murder conviction, according to charging papers, 37-year-old Betty Siddons body was found burned and dismembered in a wooded area of Pierce County. Siddons met the then 25-year-old Gwinn at a Lynnwood tavern then headed to a party with him. The two left the party where prosecutors say Gwinn killed Siddons during or after raping her.

He was living in Lynnwood and married at the time. Betty’s bloodstained car, which had been set on fire, was found near the Northgate shopping mall. A couple of days later his girlfriend led police to where the murder took place.

He entered an Alford plea, which is a special type of guilty plea where a defendant maintains their innocence, but admits the prosecution has enough proof to convict him, agreeing to accept the punishment of a guilty verdict.

In last night’s arrest, Gwinn was charged with 8 crimes and is being held on $150,000 bail. The listed charges are:

• Unlawful Posession of a Firearm
• Assault 4th Degree Domestic Violence
• Driving with a Suspended License 3rd Degree
• Resisting Arrest
• Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer
• Carrying a Concealed Pistol Without a Permit
• Two Counts of Controlled Substance, Knowingly Posessed with NoPrescription
