Thousands Celebrate Snohomish County Youth at Girls on the Run Celebration 5K in Mill Creek

This past weekend, Girls on the Run Snohomish County (GOTRSnoCo), a nonprofit that empowers young girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident, welcomed more than 2,000 people at their annual Celebration 5K event in Mill Creek.

Girls on the Run program participants from across Snohomish County, along with their families, coaches, volunteers, and community members, enjoyed a festive atmosphere that included a fun zone, sponsor booths, and the 5K run/walk.

The 3.1 mile course running through Main Street in Mill Creek served as a celebratory, culminating moment of the Girls on the Run Snohomish County season.

“Our 2026 5K was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together to celebrate the limitless potential of girls,” said Megan Wolfe, executive director of GOTRSnoCo.

“The girls became more confident and stronger with every practice, and it was so exciting to watch them achieve their goal of crossing the finish line. We’re grateful for every person who attended the big day and contributed to this special milestone!”

GOTRSnoCo is one of more than 160 councils in the Girls on the Run International network, which stretches across the United States and into Canada. Councils share a deep commitment to supporting girls’ mental and physical wellness during their most formative years.

According to survey findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 57% of U.S. teen girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021. The CDC also reported that only 24% of 6- to 17-year-olds engage in at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Girls on the Run helps to reverse this trend with its nationally recognized, evidence-based curriculum that builds confidence, connection, and healthy habits.

This spring season, GOTRSnoCo served 57 teams and 812 total girls across Snohomish County. More than 200 trained volunteer coaches delivered the curriculum, equipping girls with the physical and emotional skills to carry them across the 5K finish line—and beyond.
