Cal Raleigh Shows Positive Signs in His Return to Baseball with the AquaSox

Cal Raleigh nearly hits a home run in his first rehab appearance.

Looking for a Cal Raleigh injury update? Cal made his first-ever rehab appearance at the Saturday, June 7th AquaSox game.

Though the AquaSox fell 3 to 2 in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,203, there were positive signs for Raleigh’s eventual return to MLB.

Cal batted third in the lineup as a designated hitter, batting left-handed with three plate appearances.

He was 1 for 3 and nearly hit a home run, coming off a right-oblique strain.

In the first inning, Cal Raleigh hit a high fly ball to deep right field off a 95 mph fastball, but Lisbel Diaz from the Eugene Emeralds leapt up the wall to make the catch.

The spot where Cal Raleight hit it was about 345 feet, according to Funko Field’s wall marker.

Cal returns to first base, hoping to run the bases with just one out.

In his second at-bat, Cal struck out swinging.

In his third at-bat, Cal hit a bouncer to the hole at short that ended up in left field, good for a base hit. It bounced over both the shortstop and 3rd baseman.

Cal Raleigh wore his original AquaSox number (33), instead of his current Mariner’s number (29). Cal Raleigh played 38 games for the Everett AquaSox in 2018.

Last year he had a fantastic season with the Mariners setting many MLB records, including most home runs by a catcher, switch-hitter, and Mariners player.

After finishing for the day with only three plate appearances, Cal Raleigh spoke with the media, sharing his frustration of his first injury “I don’t like being on the IL… but its been fun seeing the guys for the last couple weeks playing really good baseball and (I’m) excited to be back with the team and be a part of it.”

Cal’s next appearance is expected to be in Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Tuesday.
