The public is invited to experience maritime history firsthand aboard the historic 1913 schooner Adventuress this weekend at the Port of Everett and docked in front of Anthony’s Homeport Restaurant.
The 133-foot National Historic Landmark sailing ship – Puget Sound’s environmental tall ship – is operated by the nonprofit Sound Experience and will offer free public dockside tours on Saturday and a Public Sail on Sunday.
Visitors of all ages can climb aboard, meet the crew of professional mariners and educators, and even help raise the sails of this iconic tall ship on the waters of the Salish Sea.
FREE Public Dockside Tours – Saturday, May 16 from 2:30 – 4:30PM.
Afternoon Public Sail – Sunday, May 17 from 12:00 – 3:00PM. Cost for the sail is $65/adults, $45/youth (18 and under) and discounts for Sound Experience Members, seniors, active military, veterans and teachers. Tickets can be purchased online at www.soundexp.org.
The nonprofit Sound Experience was launched in 1989 to inspire stewardship of Puget Sound and the Salish Sea in young people. Its education platform, the 1913, 133-foot schooner Adventuress is a USCG-inspected passenger vessel and is fully restored following a $2.3 million restoration.
The ship carries the National Historic Landmark (NHL) designation and is one of only two NHL sailing ships still in active commercial operation on the West Coast.
Over the past 37 years, more than 40,000 children and teens have sailed aboard Adventuress on day and overnight programs throughout the region to learn maritime skills, marine ecology and what it means to become a “shipmate.”
