Manhunt Underway for Prisoner Who Escaped Monroe Correctional Complex

Samuel Evans Kimble escaped the Monroe Correctional Complex.

At 10:53 PM Thursday, an inmate named Samuel Evans Kimble escaped the Monroe Correctional Complex. The Washington State Department of Corrections and law enforcement are actively searching for the escaped prisoner.

Nearby Monroe schools have heightened security, closing in campus gates and taking extra precautions.

10:30 AM Update: As of 10:15 AM, Mornoe Police do not believe Kimble is in the Monroe area. Samuel E. Kimble, 25, is described as a Black male, 5’9”, 158 lbs. He was last seen wearing a brown coat and gray sweats.

2 PM Update: Kimble was appreheneded at the Lynnwoood Sound Transit center.

A prisoner also escaped in 2024 from the same complex in Monroe, eventually being found in Beacon Hill in Seattle three days later.

Monroe Correctional Complex is near Monroe High School.

Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) and local law enforcement are searching for minimum security incarcerated individual Samuel Evans Kimble (DOC# 439536), who escaped from the Minimum Security Unit at Monroe Correctional Complex at 10:53 PM.

Kimble is currently serving a sentence of 27 months for a conviction of a Domestic Violence Court Order Violation – Assault out of Snohomish County with an earned release date of Jan. 5, 2027.

Staff determined Kimble was no longer in the facility after a formal count at 3:30 AM, and restricted movement was called in order to thoroughly search the grounds. Security footage review determined the time of escape. Local law enforcement was notified as well as nearby schools.

Kimble was last seen wearing state grey sweatpants, khaki jacket and a black close-fitting head covering, commonly referred to as a do-rag. Local law enforcement is searching the area. If you see Kimble, do not approach him. Please call 911 with information or DOC headquarters at 360-794-2720.

Right now, local law enforcement and DOC are focused on apprehending Kimble, once he has been apprehended, DOC will conduct a review of the escape.
