South County firefighters, put out a rapidly spreading fire that heavily damaged two adjoining townhomes in Lynnwood Tuesday, stopping the fire from impacting other neighboring homes. No injuries were reported.
Just after 4 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a cigarette that caught fire behind a two-story townhome complex in the 4200 block of 164th St SW in Lynnwood.
When firefighters arrived, they saw flames about 30-feet high and heavy smoke coming from the backside of one building.
Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the building and found everyone had safely evacuated. Fire quickly spread to trees and vegetation behind the townhomes, threatening other neighboring homes.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to one building and prevent further damage. It took approximately 25 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.
At least two units are considered a total loss. Four additional units were impacted. At least 13 people were displaced by the fire and are being supported with immediate needs by Support 7 and Red Cross volunteers.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office and South County Fire. Everett Fire, Mukilteo Fire and Bothell Fire assisted with this response.
