Janet Louise Carlson was the very first Director of Sno-Isle TECH when it opened back in 1977. She played a huge role in how Sno-Isle TECH came to be.

Sno-Isle TECH celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. In 2025, at the age of 96, Jan visited Sno-Isle, reminiscing the start of the school by looking through old photos with staff.
Jan Carlson died peacefully on March 24th, 2026 at the age of 97.
She was born in Seattle Janet on December 30, 1928. She was the oldest of three sisters and attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle before heading to Whitworth College in Spokane. Later transitioning to University of Washington to finish her final two years to attain her teaching degree in secondary education.

She eventually taught at Marysville High School and married her 2nd husband, John Carlson in 1973.
In 1975 Jan’s trailblazing heart for education and for students who were struggling in the traditional classroom setting led her on a path to create one of the first Vocational Skills Center for high school students in Washington State. Sno – Isle TECH and Skill Center was born and served students in 12 surrounding school districts, offering vocational training.
On her visit last year, she was very happy to see the school growing & thriving, filled with passionate students and staff that love what they do.
