Law Enforcement Chase Ends with Shooting Fatality at Fleming Street in Everett

No officers were injured in the shooting.

At approximately 4:48 a.m. this morning, Skagit County dispatch advised deputies were in pursuit following shots fired from a vehicle and requested regional assistance.

Dispatch broadcasted there was probable cause for Domestic Violence Assault 1 for the male suspect. He was reported to be armed with a firearm.

The suspect was located by authorities and pursued into the City of Everett by several Washington State law enforcement agencies on scene in an officer-involved shooting in the 6100 block of Fleming St. in Everett, WA.

Several policing agencies responded to the scene.

Witnesses say the chase started in Burlington and the suspect may have shot someone in the arm.

Another witness, who claims they were the first to call the police, said:

“We were the ones who called the police to let them know where he was, it initially started in Oak Harbor with a DV incident. He said that he was on a suicide mission, it was his third strike and he was not going back.”

The initial report indicated an argument between a man and a woman, with the man possibly having a gun. A deputy from the Island County Sheriff’s Department and an officer from the Langley Police Department arrived at the scene.

Upon their approach, the suspect fired at the officers, prompting one officer to return fire. The suspect then fled into a nearby wooded area. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was identified as a 38-year-old man from Oak Harbor.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., the Oak Harbor Police Department responded to a kidnapping report in the 100 block of S.W. Lansdale St. in Oak Harbor.

A 64-year-old man reported that the same suspect from the earlier shooting entered his residence, brandished a gun, and demanded to be driven to Burlington. The victim complied and dropped the suspect off at an unknown location in Burlington, unharmed.

The suspect, seated as a passenger, shot the driver, who sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The suspect then commandeered the vehicle and fled.

Responses at the Everett location came from several police agencies, including Brier, Everett, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, and the Snohomish County Sheriff.

Less lethal means were utilized to attempt to apprehend the armed suspect. During the confrontation, officers fired shots.
First responders rendered aid to the suspect however he died at the scene.

As of this writing, no officer injuries have been reported.

Fleming Street at Pecks Drive remains closed for investigation.

Fleming St is still closed north of Pecks Dr.

There is no threat to public safety and there are no outstanding suspects. This is an active investigation, and more details will be released when they are known.

Identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
