Deputies Respond to Looting in Flooded Areas in Snohomish County

At approximately 11:00 am on December 13th, Snohomish County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of subjects launching boats and kayaks in a closed off area near Marsh Road and Lowell Larimer Road in south Snohomish County.

Deputies were able to contact several of the subjects however, at the time, but they didn’t know looting may have occurred.

Later, one homeowner, who was also a victim of the flooding, had responded to recover their boat and to check on their property. They found that items had been stolen and that their property had been vandalized.

They were able to contact kayakers and recover their property. This was reported to Deputies after they had already contacted subjects that had crossed the road closed signs.  This remains an active and ongoing investigation.

Some tips for those who have been victimized by flooding:

  • Lock up your valuables as best you can.
  • Security cameras are helpful to deter would be thieves as well as provide helpful evidence when you have been victimized.
  • Write down serial numbers. It is helpful to police to track stolen property when there is a serial number or other identifying markings.

Snohomish County SheriffWhen signs, cones, and police tape are in place, these areas are closed for a reason and are not accessible to the public. Anyone who goes beyond these closures may be subject to arrest. These restrictions are in place to protect public safety

For those seeking to get pictures or sight see in the flooded areas:

  • Do not crossroad closed signs and enter flooded areas.
  • These people have already been victimized enough and are trying to recover after a natural disaster.

For those with criminal intent:

  • Thou shalt not steal, it’s immoral and a crime.
  • We will find you and arrest you.
