The City of Mount Vernon Issued Evacuation Notice for Those Living in the 100-year Flood Plain

The City of Mount Vernon is asking residents living in the 100-year flood plain to evacuate.

Evacuation is the best option for people to protect themselves in a severe flood event. We are currently at flood stage and predicted levels would potentially cause significant flooding in the 100-year flood plain starting Thursday, December 11.

Evacuation Routes

Recommended evacuation routes can be seen to the right and are  available on the City Website at:
https://mountvernonwa.gov/evacuation

I-5 is outside the flood plain and can be used for travel. The Division Street Bridge closes when the Skagit River reaches 36 feet. Based on current information (as of 4:00 PM 12/10/2025), the Division Street Bridge is likely to close at noon on Thursday, December 11.

Places to Evacuate To

Flood Warning for Skagit River near Mt. Vernon until Dec 13th at 3:13 PM

Residents in their cars or RVs can go to Bakerview Park. Please know that there is no power, no electricity, and no potable water at that location. Otherwise, please find a place to shelter outside of the flood plain.

Items Evacuees Need to Bring

Evacuees should bring the items listed below. In addition, it is suggested that people bring at least three days’ worth of personal supplies to meet their individual needs.

  • Wallet / Purse that includes personal identification
  • House and car keys
  • Needed medications
  • Proper/Warm clothing
  • Cell phone
  • Eyeglasses
  • Family Pet(s)
  • Cash
