Lake Stevens Man on Motorcycle Holds Up Store with AK-47

Around 5 PM Thursday, the Snohomish County Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) located and arrested a 30-year-old Lake Stevens man for first-degree robbery.

Patrol deputies responded to a robbery at a convenience store gas station in the 16400 block of 84th Street NE in Lake Stevens that occurred at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. This is the Chevron Gas Station off Highway 92.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage and learned that the suspect arrived on a motorcycle carrying a backpack, removed an AK-47 rifle from the backpack, entered the store, pointed the weapon at the clerk, and demanded money. The clerk complied with the demands and the suspect fled.

Through the joint efforts of north county patrol deputies and Robbery Burglary Unit (RBU) detectives, the suspect was identified as a 30-year-old Lake Stevens man.

The Violent Offender Task Force conducted surveillance on the suspect and arrested him at 5 PM Thursday at his residence in the 10300 block of 129th Ave NE. in north Lake Stevens.
He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for first-degree robbery.

During the arrest, deputies observed the motorcycle, helmet, riding gear, backpack, and rifle used in the robbery in plain view inside the suspect’s open garage. RBU detectives obtained a search warrant to recover the evidence.You can legally possess an AK-47 in Washington State if you owned it before the April 2023 law, but you cannot legally buy, sell, manufacture, or import new ones in the state.

The 30-year-old suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in Snohomish County at 1 p.m. today. This remains an active investigation.
