Jacksons in Monroe

What originally looked like a $230 win for a man in Monroe turned out to have a few more zeros.

On Wednesday, B.H. stopped at the Jacksons located at 13885 Fryelands Boulevard SE in Monroe, and while there, decided to buy a single $1 HIT 5 ticket.

The next day, still in the morning haze before work, he checked his ticket and thought he had won $230, which was a nice surprise. “I’ll dream about the big bucks sometimes, but for me even a couple hundred dollars can be a blessing,” he said.

A closer look, however, revealed the prize was worth $230,000, turning an ordinary morning into an unforgettable one.

In shock, the winner called his wife of 40 years to share the news.

“I wanted to surprise her when I got home from work, but I couldn’t hold it in,” he explained. Like him, she was in disbelief.

He later picked her up and the two went together to the Everett Regional Office of Washington’s Lottery to claim their prize.

The couple hasn’t celebrated yet but plans to do so with their children during a family movie night. In the meantime, B.H. says the win will allow him to become debt free and save the rest for the future. “It still feels unreal,” he said.

HIT 5 is a Washington state lottery game that replaced Quinto in 2007. Each play is $1. Players pick five numbers between 1 and 42. Alternatively, players may use Quick Pick by letting the computer select their numbers. With four winning ball combinations, the more numbers that match those drawn, the more a player will win. Players can find Washington’s Lottery retail locations here.
