9/11 Remembrance Events in the Everett Area

There’s a few 9/11 remembrance events taking place in and around Everett this year. Below are three you might consider attending.

2nd Annual 9/11 Remembrance Event: Monumental Talks 2025:

Following last year’s inspiring inaugural event, the 2nd Annual MONUMENTAL TALKS returns this September 11 to honor the memory of 9/11, celebrate freedom, and unite the community. This year’s theme, “Freedom & Family,” draws from local stories of resilience and gratitude, including Lia Tetrault’s journey.

Highlights of the MONUMENTAL TALKS 2025 include:

Mayor Joe Marine of Mukilteo will serve as Master of Ceremonies, joined by Mayor Cassie Franklin of Everett, veterans, local artists, and students for an evening themed “Freedom & Family.”

Highlights include:

  • Veteran Storytelling: Lt. Col. Dan Matthews, USAF Ret., shares powerful reflections.
  • $1,500 High School Essay Contest winner reading their work live, “Reflections of 9/11”
  • Award honoring Edward Hartley Anderson & family for their contributions to preserving community history through the Harley Photographic Collection,
  • Musical & dance performances by Monet Pelluer, Karina Choe, Darrelle Holden (Nearly Dan), Carl Kelley, and Dorothy Jayne Studio dancers.
  • Lia Tetrault (Owner of Sound View Deli & Grocery)
  • PO2 Jeff Swan, U.S. Navy Ret. – Veteran Speaker.

Paine Field 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony:

On September 11th, Paine Field Airport invites the community to gather in reflection and honor the lives lost in the 9/11 attacks.

When: Thursday, September 11th from 8:30–10:00 AM
Where: Queen of the Skies Conference Room, Paine Field Administrative Office, 9901 24th Pl W, Suite A, Everett

Following the ceremony, we welcome you to stay for coffee and light refreshments.

Parking is limited—please plan to arrive early.


Marysville Remembers Sept 11th

The City of Marysville, Marysville Fire District and Marysville Police Department are holding a public ceremony marking 24 years since the devastating Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The remembrance ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Delta Plaza outside
the Marysville Civic Center, 501 Delta Ave.

This service honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, including 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers. The Marysville Fire District also lost one of its own, Lt. Jeff Thornton, who died that same day after a long battle with cancer.

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Jon Nehring and a presentation by Marysville Fire District’s prestigious Honor Guard.

A recording of the ceremony will be made available afterward.


South County Firefighters to Host 9/11 Memorial in Edmonds:

Firefighters from South County Fire will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Sept. 11, 9:11 a.m., at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park at Downtown Edmonds Fire Station 17, 275 6th Ave. N. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The ceremony will be held in front of the 9/11 Memorial built around a 1-ton beam recovered from the collapsed World Trade Center. The beam is supported by two stainless steel towers above a pentagonal foundation. Flanking the beam are two walls of glass tiles honoring each of the nearly 3,000 people killed, including 343 firefighters, 60 police and 10 emergency medical services workers.

The ceremony, presented by South County Union Firefighters IAFF Local 1828, will feature the South County Fire Honor Guard; bugler Debbie Dawson, a retired Edmonds Police Department officer; and guest speaker retired Snohomish County Fire District 1 Capt. Andy Speier, a former New York firefighter who returned immediately following the Sept. 11 attacks to search for his fallen colleagues at Ground Zero.

In addition to honoring 9/11 victims, firefighters will also remember South County Fire Captain Dean Warren, who died in the line of duty from occupational cancer.
