Most families in the area are familiar with the Reptile Man, who has been gracing schools and libraries all over Snohomish County with reptile shows for over 35 years.
More recently his daughter, the Reptile Lady, had joined the family business and even did a show for the Everett Library last year.
Besides their educational talks, they ran a zoo in Monroe, WA. The Reptile Zoo is just off Highway 2 on the way to Stevens Pass from Monroe. It had been in operation since 1996.
The albino alligator and two-headed turtle were among most the extensive collection of reptiles on display in the Pacific Northwest.
After nearly 30 years in operation, the owners were forced to shut it down. Like many small businesses in the area, they say it was hard to recover from the COVID pandemic.
October 18th will be the last day the Reptile Zoo will be open to the public.
It’s a stern reminder to support your local, independent small businesses.
Technically, the Reptile Zoo is for sale. They are willing to sell the business and its assets for $385,000, but it doesn’t come with the building. Potential buyers would need to work out a lease with the landlord or move.
If a buyer doesn’t buy the entire business by September 15th, the Reptile Zoo will be putting up many of the animals for purchase or adoption. You can see the full list of animals here.
The Reptile Man & Reptile Lady, also known as Scott Petersen and April Jackson, will continue to run shows in the community.
Until October 18th, you can still visit the Reptile Zoo. The Reptile Zoo is located at 22715 US-2 B, Monroe, WA 98272. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, plus Saturdays 10 am to 6 pm. Public feedings take place Saturdays at 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 pm.
