Will There Be a Dicks Drive-In Between Snohomish and Lake Stevens?

The Dick’s Drive-In chain has slowly been opening up locations north of Seattle, which begs the question, could Lake Stevens or Snohomish be next?

Dick’s Ribbon Cutting in Everett

In 2020, Everett was voted as one of five locations for the Dick’s food truck. It was a hit. Next, in 2023, plans were made to open a full location in Everett. In June, 2025, they opened their Everett location.

So could Lake Stevens or Snohomish be next? It didn’t seem likely, until….

King Charley’s on Highway 9

A large Dick’s sign was erected in front of the former King Charley’s location on Highway 9. The sign went up this month, and people started asking questions.

After 59 years of serving burgers, King Charley’s shut down in 2023. For two years owners left up signs saying it would be closed for the week, but when the property went up for sale, it was clear that King Charley’s was never coming back.

King Charley’s was a staple small burger joint with high visibility along the highway near a growing part of North Snohomish.

Pictures of the new Dick’s sign started popping up in late July.

The Dick’s sign went up on July 24th, 2025. Was it a sign of a future Dick’s location? People started snapping pics and sharing on social media.

Just a few days later, on July 27th, the sign came back down. One vendor in the area said the owners of the location were trying to get them to take it away.

We may never know who set up this prank, but we do know this isn’t a future location for Dick’s Drive-In.

Here’s a response given to someone who reached out to Dick’s:

Newspaper clipping of the King Charley’s opening in 1964.

Love the location, but we have no plans (at this time) to be in that area. I admire the prankster’s artistry. 🙂

Btw, we’ve had a lot of locals comment on the Everett area’s improvement since we moved in. It’s not all bad and our involvement will contribute to it getting better. We are being the change we want to see.

So no Dick’s for Lake Stevens or Snohomish anytime soon, but residents can still hold onto long-time rumors of Trader Joe’s moving in 😉
