Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, a patrol deputy traveling along Highway 2 observed a suspect vehicle driving recklessly.
The suspect vehicle was initially contacted by Monroe Police, who attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle then fled from the officer and a short pursuit was initiated.
The suspect vehicle hit speeds of 95 mph and turned its lights out, at which point Monroe PD terminated the pursuit. The suspect vehicle was spotted by a Snohomish County Sheriff Deputy shortly after.
The deputy observed the suspect vehicle crossing the double yellow, driving in the oncoming lane and narrowly missing a head on collision. Due to the reckless nature of the suspect’s driving, the deputy initiated a pursuit.
As the vehicle left Highway 2 and continued onto Bunk Foss Road, the occupants began firing multiple shots at the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The pursuit continued, reaching speeds over 100 mph, and additional shots were fired at the deputy’s car near South Machias Road. Several rounds struck the patrol vehicle; the deputy was not injured.
The pursuit came to an end near Maple Avenue and the Snohomish River, where a sergeant rammed the vehicle in an attempt to stop the suspects.
When the suspects attempted to flee again, they were rammed a second time by another deputy and a Monroe police sergeant.
The vehicle came to a final stop after colliding with a utility pole. The driver was arrested at the crash site and the passenger fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the passenger was apprehended. A firearm was observed in plain view inside the suspect vehicle.
Two 31-year-old male suspects from Marysville were taken into custody. Both individuals were booked into the Snohomish County Jail. The passenger was booked for first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and resisting arrest; the driver was booked for first-degree assault, drive-by shooting, reckless driving and eluding.
The incident remains under active investigation by Major Crimes detectives.
