Gateway Apartments in South Everett

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the Gateway Apartments in the 13100 block of 21st Drive SE.

Upon arrival, deputies located two victims with gunshot wounds, a 17-year-old male with non-life-threatening injuries and an 11-year-old male with life-threatening injuries.

Both victims were transported by aid to Providence Regional Medical Center; the 11-year-old victim was then flown to Harborview Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. The 17-year-old victim was treated at Providence and released.

During the investigation, detectives learned the victims were in a group spray painting graffiti on a building.

The suspect, a 20-year-old male, approached the group and shot the victims. The suspect then fled the area.

Shortly after, deputies located the suspect riding a motorized scooter near the 11900 block of 37th Drive SE. The suspect initially fled on foot and tossed a handgun on the ground before surrendering and being taken into custody.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for two counts of first-degree assault.

Detectives believe the shooting is gang related. This remains an active investigation.
