529 Will Have Several 4-Day Closures in May

May 1, 2025

Downtown Everett

Heads up for travelers between Everett and Marysville. Multiple four day closures are expected in May.

Starting Friday May 2nd, SR 529 will have extended 24/7 closures each non-holiday weekend for critical work on the Steamboat Slough swing bridges — some of the oldest bridges in our state.

Northbound SR 529 will close from 11 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Tuesday on May 2nd to 6th and May 9th to 13th.

Southbound closures are tentatively scheduled for May 16-20 and May 30-June 2.

Smith Island will remain accessible, and a shuttle will be available for pedestrians, cyclists, and people using mobility devices.

During these closures, contractor crews will replace key mechanical parts to keep the bridges operating for marine traffic in the future, as required by federal law.

These closures will impact travel in north Everett and on I-5, so plan ahead, allow extra time, avoid peak hours if possible, and stick to signed detours.
