Around 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16th, 2025 ,Everett Fire and Everett Police responded to a report of a car into a building in the 1900 block of Broadway.
Firefighters arrived to find a blue passenger car, which had been traveling northbound on Broadway, had crossed into the oncoming traffic, hit a light pole, and went through the south wall of Althea’s Footwear, which was closed at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, nobody else was injured, but the driver was trapped in the vehicle.
Firefighters initiated a technical rescue operation utilizing specialized equipment to stabilize the building and create access to rescue the driver.
The “Jaws of Life” were used to safely remove portions of the vehicle to gain access to the driver. It took approximately 50 minutes to extricate the driver.

The driver, a male in his mid-80s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
Athea’s Footwear is located at 1932 Broadway in Everett, close to where an arsonist lit a house on fire in February.
A structural engineer from Everett Public Works responded to assess the building, and Snohomish PUD responded for the damaged light pole.
Northbound Broadway was closed during the incident.
The Everett Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
