Joann Fabrics has long been a staple for Everett area crafters.
Joann Fabrics and Crafts announced closures to over half its stores nationwide, due to its second round of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Everett store will be closing, as well as the stores in Lynnwood and Arlington.
The Everett Joann Fabrics and Crafts store is located at 7601 Evergreen Way. They haven’t determined the exact closure dates yet, but it will be this year.
When Joann first declared bankruptcy in 2024, court filings stated that sales had slumped, and following the COVID-19 pandemic, customers’ “demand for fabric and mask-related products abated.”
“At the same time, supply chain issues, in particular rising ocean freight costs, inflated inventory costs by over $150 million between fiscal years 2021 and 2023,” was stated in the court filing. “While these conditions affected the retail sector broadly, JOANN’s heavy reliance on imported goods meant these conditions caused, and continue to cause, outsized impacts on the Company.”

This closure announcement comes on the heels of another retail chain closure in Everett, when Party City at Everett Mall closed.
