Everett’s top destination for party supplies will be shutting down in February. This is blow for the Everett Mall, which is undergoing a promising transformation that will no longer include Party City.
The closure is part of a national shutdown of all Party City locations, due to financial woes.
Party City store managers were informed Friday that stores would begin a “wind-down process” that would only last until Feb. 28th, 2025.
The chain party-supply store sold balloons, costumes, and other party goods for birthdays, weddings, Halloween and other occasions.
Founded in 1986, Party City operated 748 retail stores in North America, employing more than 16,000 people.
Though Friday’s abrupt announcement came as a surprise to employees and customers, the writing was on the wall when the New Jersey-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2023.
