Everett PD responded to a shooting on the 1700 block of Colby Avenue in Everett around 5:15pm Sunday. A man had been shot in the face and barricaded himself and his girlfriend in his house while waiting for the police to arrive.
Police used drones to search the house, but the suspect had fled to the Tulalip Resort Casino where he was eventually found and arrested.
The two men knew each other, having worked at the same construction company. The suspect visited his manager at his home between 4:30 and 5 p.m. The suspect is a 43-year-old man from Seattle.
The manager, a 34-year-old man, was surprised to see the suspect, who told him he wanted to talk about child support paperwork since his manager had been divorced before.
According to the police report, the manager let the suspect into his home, and they smoked a cigarette together. When the suspect stepped outside to get the paperwork from his car, he seemed upset and nervous when he got back. He told his manager, “I thought we were friends. I didn’t know it would come to this.” “You never know who you are talking to.”
The boss was sitting on the couch while the suspect was standing near the living room entry. The suspect then put his hand inside his jacket pocket, lifted the jacket, and fired a shot with a .22-caliber pistol that hit the manager in the face, injuring the manager, who was later taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
When the suspect fled to the Tulalip Resort Casino, he used his company credit card to book a room. He would not spend the night there as he was arrested on location and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for 1st-degree assault with a firearm and $250,000 bail.
The manager told police he thought the man could have been on drugs.
