Everett Apartment Fire Caused By Dryer

Everett Fire

Yesterday Everett and South County Fire rescued a woman from a 3rd floor balcony and extinguished a 1st floor fire inside an apartment in the 1000 block of 130th St SW in Everett.

Firefighters arrived shortly after 3 p.m. to find smoke and flames in the kitchen of an apartment on the 1st floor.

No one was inside the apartment, but firefighters used a ladder to rescue a 50-year-old woman who was trapped on her third-floor balcony, due to intense smoke.

The fire was caused by the dryer on the 1st floor and had spread to the kitchen of the same apartment.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Dryer fires can be very serious. Here’s how to prevent one:

  • Always use a lint filter in your dryer, and clean it before and after every use.
  • Ensure the air exhaust vent pipe is clear and that the outdoor vent flap opens properly when the dryer is in use.
  • Never dry items that have been in contact with flammable substances like cooking oil, gasoline, paint thinner, or alcohol.
