On Wednesday, October 23rd, Downtown Everett will experience high volumes of vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the Angel of the Wind arena.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers 751 (IAM 751) will be using the facility as their voting location to approve or reject the latest negotiated Boeing contract.
Voting will go from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For those traveling to the arena, street parking is limited, so using transit, carpooling, or parking at EverPark garage or Everett Station is encouraged.
The latest offer includes a 35% pay hike over four years, a new incentive plan, and a $7,000 ratification bonus (a 40% raise with compounding). Boeing’s previous offer was a 25% wage increase, but 94.6% rejected it. The machinists were on strike for 40 days leading up to this vote.
Additional pedestrian traffic downtown should be expected throughout the day. Nearby businesses will likely remain open and accessible during their posted hours unless otherwise announced.
The first vote that put union workers on strike was held at Kasch Park and severely disrupted Sno-Isle Skills Center. We’ll see if Downtown Everett can handle the traffic better. To visually check traffic throughout the city, visit: everettwa.gov/trafficcams
Everett Public Works and Police will be monitoring traffic in the area. If people experience or witness an urgent traffic control issue, they are asked to call Public Works dispatch: 425-257-8821 and press 1.
