As we shared in our Guide to Everett’s New Automated Traffic Cameras, the intersection of 41st Street and Rucker Avenue is next on the list for red light photo enforcement.
Starting Monday, October 21st, there will be a 30-day warning period for red light violations. Instead of receiving a ticket, you will receive a warning.
After the 30 days, red light violations will cost you $124.
As with the active cameras in other parts of Everett, the camera on Rucker will capture images of vehicles violating red light laws for those heading north or south on Rucker at 41st Street.
To avoid the $124 ticket, be sure to stop before the intersection line for any red light and make sure you come to a full stop before making a right turn. Running a yellow light will not trigger the cameras or result in a ticket.
To be clear, no actual fines will be assessed during this 30-day warning period. Citations won’t begin until November 19th at the earliest.
These cameras have been proven to increase the safety of children, pedestrians, and other drivers, through driver behavior changes. Typically the first couple of months are the peak of ticket enforcement, then the numbers drop dramatically over time.
In related news, the traffic signal pole at 16th Street and Broadway has been repaired and automated traffic safety camera infractions have resumed.
