The 529 overnight bridge 4-month lane reduction, which was slated to be finished in early October has been extended to at least mid-November.

During the Everett City Council meeting last night, Jennifer Gregerson, Everett’s Government Affairs Director, updated the council on the delay.

She mentioned WSDOT experienced unexpected mechanical challenges and additional steel work. Apparently the mechanical challenges have to do with the bridge lift mechanism on the 97-year old bridge.

Those who frequently travel between Everett and Marysville were hoping the work would be done on October 9th, as planned.

As a reminder, here’s what you should expect, when traveling through the area:

SR 529 at the Snohomish River Bridge: From June 9 until mid November, SR 529 in north Everett will remain reduced to one lane in each direction at the Snohomish River.

The northbound SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge will continue to be closed. The southbound SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge remains reconfigured to carry one lane of traffic in each direction with a reduced speed limit.

The East Marine View Drive on-ramp to northbound SR 529 remains closed during this period. Traffic is directed through local streets to get back on the northbound SR 529. Access from northbound SR 529 to Smith Island and Spencer Island remains open.

A shuttle will takes bicyclists past the work zone 24 hours a day. There may be a wait of up to 30 minutes for the shuttle.
