On September 12th, 94.6% of the Boeing Machinists from IAM District 751 and W24 Machinists voted to reject Boeing’s contract. And 96% voted to go on strike.

The strike begins at midnight tonight. Expect to see Boeing workers on strike early Friday morning.

A tentative agreement was made on September 9th, with 25% raises over four years to the 33,000 machinists that also included enhanced retirement benefits and fewer hours of mandatory overtime, but that deal was struck down during all-day voting on September 12th.

Machinists point out the proposed contract cuts out their bonus, so it really only amounts to at 9% increase.

In the announcement, IAM District 751 President Jon Holden said, “This will be an unfair labor practice strike, as there were many violations of the law… we had discriminatory conduct, we had coercive questioning, we had unlawful surveillance, and we had unlawful promise of benefits.”

Holden added, “Boeing has to stop breaking the law, it has to bargain in good faith, and we will be back at the table whenever we can get there to drive forward on the issues that our members say are important.”
