Two Projects Broke Ground of High Interest to Snohomish County Residents

The warm summer weather also means construction season. Two important projects broke ground in Everett that will be of high interest to those who live in Snohomish County.

The first project may not be super exciting, but it is very important:

Reservoir 3 Replacement

On Tuesday, Everett’s infrastructure improvement project officially broke ground on the Reservoir 3 Replacement Project.

Nearly 75% of the clean drinking water in Snohomish County comes from Everett. This project will help Everett Public Works be better prepared for future seismic activity and ensure water availability for nearly 2/3rds of the water utility customers that rely on this reservoir.

It’s a multi-year project expected to cost approximately $80 million and will be funded through the City of Everett’s water and sewer system improvement fund and capital improvement plan.

The second project will provide more tasty restaurant options at the waterfront:

Two New “Restaurant Row” Buildings at Waterfront Place Break Ground

On Wednesday, the Port of Everett and future tenants held a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the next phase of retail/restaurant investment at Waterfront Place.

The $15.2 million project is adding two new multi-tenant buildings with six dining experiences at what is dubbed “Restaurant Row” at Fisherman’s Harbor.

Port officials, Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin, and incoming tenants shared remarks, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking to commemorate the milestone.

“We’re continuing to build and add great restaurants here, which is an important next step in development for Waterfront Place,” Port of Everett Commissioner David Simpson said. “We look forward to welcoming our new tenants to bring more dining options here and benefit the overall quality of life in this vibrant community.”

One of the two new buildings is being constructed next door to the Asian-fusion Fisherman Jack’s restaurant and South Fork Baking Co., which opened last year at Restaurant Row along Seiner Drive. The 12,000 sq. ft. building will soon be home to Rustic Cork Wine Bar, Menchie’s @ the Marina, Alexa’s Cafe and Tapped Public House.

The other building will add another 6,000 sq. ft. at the corner of Seiner and West Marine View drives near the Grand Avenue Park Bridge. It will house The Net Sheds, a new fish-and-chips bar and fish market, with the balance of the building still seeking a Mexican restaurant.

“We are so excited to be here today, breaking ground on these two new buildings to serve our community at Restaurant Row,” Port of Everett CEO Lisa Lefeber said. “Reflecting on what this site looked like just 20 years ago, as the former epicenter of Everett’s mill town roots followed by years of industrial use, it had legacy contamination and limited public access. Through the hard work of our Port team, we cleaned up the site and built the infrastructure necessary for what is happening today. People now want to come enjoy this waterfront destination, which I believe is the best waterfront in Puget Sound.”

Here are comments from representatives of the future waterfront restaurants:

Alexa’s Café

“We look forward to sharing our breakfast and lunch menu with everyone, as we are very thrilled to be building the same fresh and exciting dining experience that we have provided in Bothell for 30 years to the Port of Everett community.”

Danica Cardin, Alexa’s Café Manager

Menchie’s at the Marina

“We look forward to working hand-in-hand with the Port and our fellow businesses to build something truly exceptional – a space where families can gather, friends can connect, and new memories can be made over every froyo swirl and topping. We are so excited for this build and to see Menchie’s at the Marina come to life!”

Leah Karl, Co-owner of Menchie’s at the Marina

The Net Sheds & Tapped Public House

“Today was an amazing step toward achieving our goal of being part of the Everett community. Special thanks to the Port and the city of Everett teams. We are excited to collaborate with very cool co-tenants and contribute to the great momentum and energy in the area. Our Tapped and Net Sheds teams are counting down the days to opening our doors next summer.”

Sean Drought, CEO and Founder of the Way Group Hospitality, operator of The Net Sheds and Tapped Public House

Port contractor Faber Construction is expected to reach substantial completion on both buildings in spring 2025, with tenant improvements to follow. Businesses are expected to open next summer.

“The new addition to Restaurant Row will bring even more fantastic dining options to our waterfront,” Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said. “Thank you to our Port Commissioners, Port CEO Lisa Lefeber and the entire Port of Everett team for their work making our waterfront even more of an attractive destination.”
