A reader tipped us off at 7:30pm last night that police had called a chaplain for an incident on the 13900 block of Beverly Park Road.
The incident turned out to be a 1-year-old child who was playing in the front yard with two other siblings and their parent. A 45-year old roommate arrived home and struck the toddler when pulling into the drive way.
Here’s what the Snohomish County Sheriff reported this morning:
Around 7 p.m. Thursday, Sheriff’s Office deputies and Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian fatal collision in the 13900 block of Beverly Park Road. When deputies arrived, aid was on scene with the victim, a 1-year-old child, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives discovered the 1-year-old child was playing in the front yard with two other siblings and their parent. A roommate, a 45-year-old man, arrived home to the residence and when he pulled into the driveway, he struck the child. The 45-year-old suspect was taken into custody for vehicular homicide. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. A blood search warrant was applied for and administered.
CIU detectives are still investigating the crash but believe drugs were a contributing factor.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail and a drug recognitions expert’s examination listed the driver as appearing to be under the influence of “a Depressant and Cannabis.”
