The 529 overnight bridge closure, then 4-month lane reduction, has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 8th.
Here’s what the Washington Department of Transportation stated:
After we postponed work this week, State Route 529 now is scheduled for a full closure from 10 p.m. Saturday, June 8, to 8 a.m. Sunday June 9, near the Snohomish River Bridge.
When the highway reopens Sunday, it will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane, with both directions using what currently is the southbound bridge. This configuration will be in place until October.
During the overnight closure, crews will:
- Reduce southbound SR 529 to one lane near the Snohomish River Bridge.
- Restripe northbound SR 529 to shift one northbound lane to use the southbound Snohomish River Bridge, then return northbound traffic to its regular lanes.
- Install pylons to separate northbound and southbound traffic across the bridge.
While the northbound bridge is closed, contractor crews will repair and replace parts on the lift mechanism that raises and lowers the draw span. While they complete this work, the bridge cannot be moved, so the lift span needs to remain in the raised position because federal maritime law requires keeping the Snohomish River open to marine traffic. They’ll also clean and repaint the bridge, which helps preserve it.
