Everett Community College’s Board of Trustees voted 4-0 this evening to approve a three-year contract with EvCC’s next president, Chemene Crawford. Trustee Kelly Shepherd was absent.
Crawford will start at EvCC July 1.

“The first 90 days will be critical to the process of moving the college forward by leaning into our strengths and pivoting our practice, where needed, to promote student success,” Crawford said. “I plan to spend a tremendous amount of time speaking with students, faculty, and staff about their vision for EvCC.”

Crawford has served over 30 years in higher education and is currently president and CEO of North Seattle College. Previously, she served as an associate vice chancellor for Dallas County Community College District (now Dallas College). She has also served as vice president of student services and enrollment management, vice president of administrative operations, dean of student affairs, and director of student financial services. She worked approximately 10 years in the California Community College system.

She authored a study of California’s chief executive officers and conducted research on the development of four-year degree programs at community colleges, which was the subject of her doctoral dissertation.

Crawford has taught as a full-time faculty member for Western Governors University and as an adjunct faculty member for the University of North Texas at Dallas, University of Phoenix, Nevada State College, and College of Southern Nevada.

She earned a doctor of education degree in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a master’s in human resources and organization development and a bachelor’s of science in organizational behavior, both from University of San Francisco.

EvCC worked with the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Searches to conduct a national search for the college’s next president.

Crawford will lead an institution that educates more than 15,000 students per year and employs more than 800 faculty and staff at several locations throughout Snohomish County, with most students at the main campus in Everett.
