It’s Bike Month And Everett, Washington Has A Host Of Events To Keep You Rolling On Two Wheels

May is Bike Month and there’s a whole host of activities and events in Everett, Washington to get you started or keep you rolling. Here’s a list put together from the City of Everett.

May is National Bike Month and the City of Everett is hosting events throughout the month and sharing resources to promote bicycle safety and to encourage more people to incorporate bicycling into their lives.
“Encouraging non-motorized transportation is one way the City of Everett is reducing its environmental impact and moving our city toward a greener future,” said Cassie Franklin, mayor of the City of Everett.

There are several ways for those who work, play and live in Everett to participate in National Bike Month:

Explore Everett on an interactive bike tour

Get reacquainted with a familiar area of the city or explore a new one! Everett has six interactive bike tours, with routes designed for riders at different levels of comfortability. To find the perfect tour, visit: everettwa.gov/biketours.

Take a bike workshop at the Everett Public Library

The Everett Public Library will be hosting a Bike Commuting 101 workshop at the Main Branch on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. In this workshop, presenters from Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop will share tips for safety commuting and running errands by bike. On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Sharing Wheels will be back for Bike-Packing 101, which teaches riders how to plan for longer bike-packing trips. This workshop will be from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Branch.

Get free help with bike repairs!

Starting Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the Everett Public Library will host a monthly Mobile Bike Clinic with Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop. Volunteer mechanics will be on site on the second Tuesday of each month for free bicycle repairs from 3 – 6 p.m. through October. Drop ins are welcome!

Bike Everywhere Day with Everett Transit

In honor of Bike Everywhere Day, Everett Transit is hosting a fun community event on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Everett Station to celebrate biking in Snohomish County. Learn about new bike friendly corridors, new trails, safe riding tips, and more.

Kids to Parks Day

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, the Parks Department will be hosting a Kids to Parks Day event at Jackson Park from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. They are encouraging families to bike to the park together to join in the fun. There will be a helmet giveaway on a first come, first served basis, Sharing Wheels will be doing bike checks and minor repairs, and more!

Learn more about the 7.2+ miles of new bike connections coming in 2023

The City of Everett will construct three projects that will make significant progress on its bicycle network.

• Active Connections: Fleming will build Everett’s first bicycle boulevard, a street with low motorized traffic volumes and speeds, designed to give bicycle travel priority. The project will create a new north/south bicycle boulevard on Federal Avenue, College Avenue and Fleming Street from Madison Street to the overpass of Mukilteo Boulevard at Forest Park and connect to existing bike routes to the north. Construction on Fleming will begin in May.
• Active Connections: Madison will add buffered bike lanes along the curb of both sides of Madison Street as a part of the 2023 street resurfacing project that will start in summer.
• Active Connections: Wall will create and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle connectivity from the Everett Station to the Angel of the Winds arena. Construction on Wall is expected to begin in late summer or early fall 2023.

These three Action Connections projects will add a total of 7.2 lane-miles of new bicycle facilities and 28 lane-miles of bike wayfinding on existing bike routes this year.

Learn how to be a bicycle-friendly driver

This #BikeMonth, learn how to be a bicycle-friendly driver by completing this interactive online course, “Sharing the road with bicyclists: A bicycle-friendly driver program.” Upon course completion, visit the self-assessment link to earn a free Bicycle-Friendly Driver sticker.

Everett’s bicycle program

In December of 2021, Everett was recognized as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, an acknowledgment of the work that has been done to make Everett a safer, more accessible community for cyclists of all abilities and encourage healthy and sustainable transportation choices.
