Citizens Commission On Salaries Of Elected Officials In Everett, Washington Looking For Public Input

In 2021 the commission said no raises for elected officials for the next two years.

Every two years the Citizens Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials meet to adopt a salary schedule for City of Everett, Washington elected officials. The commission meets every other year and is required to complete its work by the first week in May. Last time the Commission met in 2021 they said no to any raises for Everett’s elected officials.

The commission has held a few meetings so far this year and have only a few meetings left before making their recommendations for the next two years. There is a regular meeting set for this Friday April 14th at 10 AM and then the final public hearing of the year is set for Friday April 21st. If you’d like to provide input you can attend in person at 10:00 AM in the Human Resources Conference Room at the Everett City Municipal Building at 2930 Wetmore in downtown Everett.

Thus far no public input has been received by the Citizens Salary Commission this year.

Here are the current salaries for elected officials in Everett, Washington as determined by the Citizens Commission two years ago:

The City of Everett Citizens’ Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials pursuant to Section 2.8 of the City of Everett Charter hereby adopts the following salary schedule for elected officials:

1. Mayor: The Mayor’s salary for 2021 is $16,246 per month through December 31, 2021.

Effective January 1, 2022, the Mayor’s salary for 2022 will remain $16,246 per month through December 31, 2022.

Effective January 1, 2023, the Mayor’s salary for 2023 will remain $16,246 per month through December 31, 2023.

2. City Council Members: The City Council members’ salary for 2021is $2,511 per month through December 31, 2021.

Effective January 1, 2022, the City Council members’ salary will remain $2,511 per month through December 31, 2022.

Effective January 1, 2023, the City Council members’ salary will remain $2,511 per month through December 31, 2023.

3. City Council President/Mayor Pro Tern: The salary for the City Council member designated as the City Council President/Mayor Pro Tern shall be an additional thirty percent {30%) of his/her salary as a Council member.

4. Municipal Court Judges: In accordance with Everett Municipal Code 2.108.040 {C), the salary for a full-time Everett Municipal Court Judge shall be equal to that of a Washington State District Court Judge {currently $190,120 per year) and shall automatically be adjusted at such times and with the same effective dates as any adjustment to the salary of Washington State District Court Judges.

5. Benefits: All benefits for the Mayor, City Council members, and Municipal Court Judges are provided for outside the scope of this schedule.
