That’s the official on-the-record statement from Lauren Willis, Global Communications Director – Western U.S. and Walmart Corporate Affairs, which was sent to MyEverettNews.com Tuesday.
The company indicated the store may actually close before April 21st with the pharmacy inside set to have their last day on Friday April 21st. There are six other Walmart stores in Snohomish County and all employees at the Evergreen Way store are being given the option to transfer to another location or business unit.
The closest Walmart to the location being closed is at 1605 SE Everett Mall Way. The Evergreen Way location is one of several being closed throughout the country where Walmart has five thousand stores. There are sixty-five Walmart stores in Washington State.
The company says there are any number of reasons a store may be closed but underperforming stores are studied and the company uses historic and current financial performance to determine if the store in question is in line with the threshold that guides Walmart’s strategy to close underperforming locations and in this case, the Evergreen Way store fit the bill. The store on Everett Mall Way is not affected by this action and is expected to remain open.
