The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting early Monday morning in unincorporated Snohomish County between Everett and Lynnwood.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies responded to the 13500 block of Hwy 99 around 6:40 a.m. for reports of a shooting.
Two adults, a man and a woman, were sitting in their vehicle parked in a private driveway off of Hwy 99. The owner of the residence, a 38-year-old man, exited his home and confronted the two people parked in the driveway.
An altercation occurred between the 38-year-old homeowner and the 38-year-old driver of the vehicle. The homeowner fired one shot, striking the 38-year-old victim. The victim died at the scene.
The passenger, a 42-year-old woman, was not injured.
The homeowner, a 38-year-old man, was detained by deputies. He was interviewed by detectives and has since been released.
The victim and the suspect were not known to each other. This remains an active investigation.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause of manner of death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
