Editor’s Update Wednesday 3:10 PM 12/28/2022: Everett Fire Department released the following information on a second victim found in the residence today:

As fire investigators continued their work to identify the cause and origin of the fire, they received conflicting information on how many individuals lived at the residence. Today, investigators returned to the home to conduct a follow-up search of the site and found an additional victim on the top floor under extensive fire debris. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the second deceased victim to determine the cause and manner of death and establish identity. The Everett Police Department is handling the death investigation. The preliminary investigation does not lead investigators to believe any criminal activity is involved with this fire. The cause and origin of the fire continue to be under investigation.
Just before 11:30 PM Sno911 received multiple calls of smoke and flame coming from a two story townhome near 3rd SE and SE Everett Mall Way.
Arriving Fire crews found the unit fully involved when they arrived and began an offensive attack.
Everett Firefighters received mutual aid from South County Fire in battling the blaze.
Once crews got the fire out, they discovered the body of a person inside the unit.
As of this writing the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will release the cause and manner of death of the person as well their identity.
