Members of the Everett Police Officers Association, family members and volunteers pose for a group photo just prior to the start of this year’s Shop with a Cop event at the south Everett WalMart.

In 2015 Everett Police partnered with a retail chain to shop for kids in need during an event called Heroes and Helpers.

That year more than two dozen officers from various are law enforcement agencies led by the Everett Police Officers Association teamed up with 65 kids to shop for Holiday gifts.

The tradition continued each December and became the annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

In 2020 the Pandemic stopped the practice of cops and kids getting together and the Everett Police Officers Association went out and purchased gifts for kids selected by social service providers.

The kids made wish lists and Everett Police Officers Association members bought gifts, wrapped them and delivered to the children’s homes.

Tuesday night, Shop with a Cop was back in person with members of the Everett Police Officers Association, their family members, volunteers and some members of the Mill Creek Police Department shopping with 200 kids at the Wal-Mart on Evergreen Way in south Everett.

Kids were paired with cops and given gift cards to buy items for their family members, themselves and others important to them.

The kids got to select the presents and then they were wrapped by volunteers. Kids and their families also enjoyed pizza, refreshments and a photo with Santa Claus.

Participants were selected by various social service agencies in Snohomish County and the Everett Police Officers Association raised funds to purchase the gift cards.

Editor’s note: MyEverettNews.com has taken photos and donated them to the EPOA since 2015. Here are some from this evening. For privacy of participants, we are only showing the faces of the officers and it was tough to tell who was having more fun, the cops or the kids. Click photo to enlarge.
