In 2021 Major League Baseball promoted the Everett Aquasox to Class High-A the third highest level of play in Minor League Baseball.
That meant the Everett Aquasox went from playing about 40 home games a season starting in late May and running into September to 66 home games a season beginning in April.
While there have been many upgrades to Funko Field at Everett Memorial Stadium over the years, (which is owned by the Everett School District) Major League Baseball is mandating improvements that would likely be beyond the scope of the School District to provide.
This week the Everett City Council is set to consider and adopt a joint resolution with Snohomish County to investigate the feasibility of locating an outdoor multipurpose stadium somewhere in Everett.
According to the resolution being submitted to the Everett City Council, the owners of the Everett Aquasox are willing to sign a lease of at least 30-years in length as an anchor tenant at an Everett outdoor multipurpose stadium that meets Major League Baseball’s requirements.
The resolution says an outdoor multipurpose stadium could be used to host over 100 non-baseball events per year that would feature a wide range of both entertainment and athletic events.
You can read the entire resolution here. The Everett City Council meets at 12:30 PM this Wednesday with the resolution on their agenda.
