The Swim Center at Forest Park in Everett.

In March of 2020 the Swim Center at Forest Park in Everett, Washington shut down like most other public facilities during the Pandemic. However, due to budget constraints, the pool never re-opened.

On Monday we checked in via email with Cory Rettenmier at Everett Parks and Recreation who reported the status of the pool at Forest Park as follows: Currently, there are no plans to reopen the City of Everett’s Forest Park Swim Center. This YMCA partnership will ensure Everett residents continue to have access to a pool and access to swim lessons. The City is continuing to look for partners who may be interested in running the Forest Park pool operations and currently has request for proposals out.

Back in 2018 the City of Everett and YMCA came to an agreement that allowed residents of Everett who were not YMCA members to use the pool at the new YMCA on Colby Avenue at a reduced rate. That’s been happening since the facility opened in December of 2019. Now the City of Everett has announced scholarship funds are being made available for income-eligible Everett residents to get discounts on swim lessons. Here are the details.

The scholarship program begins next month.

The Everett Parks Department will be allocating previously donated scholarship funds for income-eligible Everett residents towards swim lessons at the Everett YMCA beginning this October.

The new partnership will provide a discount on the non-member rate. 30-minute group lessons will be $48 off and 45-minute group lessons will be $72 off. If eligible residents prefer private lessons, they will receive $18 off a single lesson or $72 off a four-lesson package. Income eligible individuals and families will also benefit from the YMCA’s “Access For All” program, which offers up to an additional 35% off (depending on household income level).

Currently, all Everett residents have the opportunity to use the Everett YMCA pool for open swim at a reduced rate. This new partnership will provide more pool access to Everett residents while providing opportunities for both youth and adults to learn how to swim. The Everett YMCA currently offers non-members the opportunity to sign up for swim lessons but at a non-member rate.

The next three sessions for swim lessons are as follows:

Session 10           Oct. 3-27 registration opens for community on Sept. 17

Session 11           Nov. 1-23 registration opens for community on Oct. 15

Session 12           Nov. 28 – Dec. 15 registration opens for community Nov. 12

The Everett YMCA is located at 4730 Colby Ave.
