The PUD says the chargers are the first of their kind in Everett, Washington and are capable of fully charging the average electric vehicle in 30 – 60 minutes. There is a cost to charge your EV with the rate at this station at 43 cents per kWh and a charge of 40 cents per minute of occupancy after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Once open to the public the chargers will be available on a 24-hour first-come, first-serve basis. The PUD will add the site to their map of Public EV Charging Locations once the two chargers come online.
The PUD received a grant of over one-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars from the Washington State Department of Ecology to help cover costs. The City of Everett also made parking and sidewalk modifications on California Street to accommodate the two chargers.
The project has taken longer to bring to completion than first envisioned as many speakers at the event referenced.
“This is just the start,” said Tanya (Toni) Olson who is the President of the PUD Board of Commissioners.
