The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Everett Fire Department investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that sent smoke billowing into the air Thursday afternoon in south Everett, Washington.

Just after 3:30 PM Sno911 received multiple reports of fire in a building in the 9600 block of Evergreen Way.

Responding Everett Firefighters reported seeing a large column of smoke from half-a-mile out.

Heavy smoke was pouring from the basement of a building that once housed an automotive detail business.

Next to that business was a mini-spa and above the business on fire were a number of restaurants and shops.

Firefighters from South County Fire assisted Everett Firefighters in the commercial response and crews were able to keep the fire contained to the lower portion of the building though there was smoke and water damage to some of the other tenants.

Evergreen Way and 4th Avenue West were closed for a couple of hours while crews worked.

There is no damage estimate at this early stage of the investigation. There were no reports of injury.
