Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin.

Cassie Fraklin, the Mayor of Everett, Washington today gave her annual “State of Everett” speech in front of a crowded ballroom at the Edward Hansen Conference Center. It was the first time since the Pandemic so many Everett business and political leaders had gathered together in person in more than two years.

Franklin had postponed the speech from earlier this year so she could deliver it in person but she began by saying this was a much different speech today that it had been a week ago. Last week’s on-duty killing of Everett Police Officer Dan Rocha led Mayor Franklin to revise the speech and deliver it “in a place of sorrow today.” Here is her address:

Mayor Franklin highlighted positives in Everett including arts, parks, business and education but also addressed negatives including homelessness, rising violent crime and a lack of housing. For those who don’t have time to watch the 45 minute address here is a link to the full text.
