The City of Everett will spend the next two years preparing its vision of the City in 2044. Meetings are being held over the next several weeks as the process gets underway. Here’s an explanation and links to follow for more information and to express your ideas.

The City of Everett launched its periodic update to the comprehensive plan which represents the City’s vision for the next 20 years and sets goals, policies and plans for growth and development. Community members are invited to participate in scoping meetings during the first phase of the project to share ideas and priorities. The scoping comment period will run from Feb. 18 to March 25, 2022.

“Our community is expecting a significant amount of growth in the coming years. Our comprehensive plan is the roadmap to our future and helps guide how Everett will grow and best serve our residents and businesses,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. “It’s important that our community joins us in this important work so we can create a shared vision for the future of our city.”

Everett: 2044 is a multi-year project to update the City’s core planning document, which guides public policy to accommodate population, housing and job growth. It also plans for the future of things that contribute to quality of life in Everett: parks, housing, economic development, environmental sustainability, transportation and utilities. Community members will be invited to learn about the project and provide feedback throughout the different phases.

During the first major phase of the project, community members can participate in virtual “scoping” meetings to learn about the project and provide feedback and ideas to help guide the project and shape the plan. Virtual meetings are planned for March 1 at 6:30 p.m., March 3 at noon and March 10 at 6 p.m. Links and phone numbers to the virtual meetings will be posted on the project webpage prior to the meetings.

Periodic updates to the plan are required by the state’s Growth Management Act. The City’s update must be completed and adopted by Everett City Council in 2024, and sent to the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Puget Sound Regional Council by mid-2024.
