Detectives Investigating After Pedestrian Killed On Everett Avenue Friday Night

Editor’s Update Monday 01/10/2022: The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office issued the following this afternoon. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has completed the examination and confirmed the identification of the 76-year-old male who was involved in a motor vehicle vs. pedestrian collision near the 2200 block of Everett Avenue in Everett, Washington on January 7th, 2022. The decedent is Charles Willey of Everett, Washington. The cause of death is blunt force injuries. The manner of death is Accident.

Everett Avenue west of Rainier was shut down as detectives investigated the crash.

Traffic safety detectives from the Everett Police Department were called to investigate after a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in the 2200 block of Everett Avenue.

Around 5:30 PM Friday evening Snohomish 911 received reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Everett Avenue near the intersection with Rainier. Medics were called and attempted life-saving efforts but those were not successful.

The person who died was an adult male who was crossing the street. Lt. Robert Goetz with Everett Police tells MyEverettNews.com detectives are just starting their investigation and Everett Avenue is closed between Rainier and Broadway.

The vehicle driver is cooperating with detectives and Goetz said there did not appear to be any signs of impairment or reckless driving, but the investigation is ongoing.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death and release the identity of the victim.

This was the second car-pedestrian crash of the day for Everett Police who handled another case around 7:30 AM at 79th and Evergreen Way in south Everett that sent the pedestrian to the hospital. In both cases it was extremely dark with rain coming down and heavy traffic.

Earlier this month Everett Police announced they will be conducting a pedestrian safety campaign targeting both drivers and pedestrians to try and reduce the number of incidents between vehicles and people on the roadways in Everett, Washington.
